Question posted by MrDohBoyBIG on 5 Dec 2012 Last updated on 5 August 2023 I got new ones from the pharma this time and want to know if the new ones I got are supposed to be better at all ? 1) Cuz the price difference and 2) I was taken off my hydrocodone after 5 years and put on these and they just don't do anything for me I find it a little ridiculous that I am prescribed 4-6 at a time which is easily over 1000 mg a day when I can take less codone and have better results. Any input would be helpful and if there might be something else I can do for the pain so I'm not eating so many pills I have a rather large tolerance to medications and I am tired of eating pills that don't really work I would rather eat Ibuprofen but I really was not helping my liver with the amt of those I had to take thank you ,Big. The AN 627 pills are tramadol 50mg made by Amneal Pharmaceuticals, and the oblong 377 are tramadol 50mg made by Caraco Pharmaceutical Labs. They are both essentially the same drug but made by different manufacturers. The most you should be taking is two tabs 4 times a day-this is the MAX dose of 400mg in a 24 hour period. Taking any more than that puts you at risk for seizures. Tramadol, especially in high doses, can lower the seizure threshold. Just because it is not considered a controlled substance doesnt mean it is safer than opioids like hydrocodone. Tramadol isnt an opioid. It is considered "opioid like". It is not made from any poppy alkaloids, natural or synthetic, but it DOES act on the opioid receptors, therefore, really carries all the dangers that opioids do. It is also unique in that it has antidepressant properties. For some people it can be every bit as hard to come off of as a true opioid. You get not only opioid type withdrawals, you get antidepressant type withdrawals as well. If I were in your shoes, I would let my Dr know that the medication is not working and see what your other options are.
